Role & Key Responsibilities:
The Audio Specialist is responsible for the design, installation, configuration, and ongoing quality of all audio systems across the Studio Department. Operating within the AVL Team, the role ensures that every live production table and studio environment delivers clean, broadcast-quality audio — from capture through to the final stream. The Audio Specialist works closely with the Video Specialist, Studio IT Team, and AVL Team to ensure full audio-visual integration across all studio builds and live productions.
Key Responsibilities
Audio System Design & Installation:
Design and specify audio capture solutions for new studio and table builds based on Product Requirements and the studio environment.
Install, configure, and commission all audio equipment — microphones, audio interfaces, mixers, monitoring systems, and signal processing units.
Plan and execute audio cabling, routing, and patch panel configurations in line with the Studio BOM and design drawings.
Ensure all audio installations meet broadcast standards and production requirements before sign-off.
Audio Quality & Live Production Support:
Monitor audio quality across all live production tables — identify and resolve any noise floor issues, interference, hum, buzz, clipping, or sync problems.
Set and maintain audio levels across all active tables to broadcast standard.
Ensure audio is correctly synchronised with video on all streams — no perceptible delay or drift.
Respond to P1 audio incidents immediately — minimum response target of <5 minutes for any audio failure on a live table.
Carry out regular audio checks at the start of each production shift.
POC Testing & R&D:
Support the AVL POC testing process for new audio equipment, microphone configurations, and audio processing solutions.
Test and evaluate new audio technologies in the R&D test area and document results in the POC Test Log.
Provide audio expertise during table and studio commissioning — sign off on audio quality before go-live.
Maintenance & Lifecycle Management:
Maintain all studio audio equipment — scheduled servicing, firmware updates, and condition checks.
Manage audio equipment inventory — flag items for replacement at end of lifecycle.
Maintain accurate documentation for all audio system configurations, signal chains, and wiring.
Contribute to the Studio Technical Systems Register for all audio assets.
Collaboration:
Work closely with the Video Specialist to ensure full AV integration and sync across all productions.
Collaborate with the Studio IT Team on encoder configuration and stream audio output verification.
Participate in new studio build projects as the audio subject matter expert — contributing to BOM, installation, and QA.
Complete the audio sections of the Technical QA Checklist for all new table and studio launches.
Requirements
Essential:
Experience in an audio engineering or broadcast audio role, ideally in a production, broadcast studio, recording studio’s or live events environment.
Strong working knowledge of audio signal chains - from microphone capture through mixing, processing, and output.
Hands-on experience installing and configuring professional audio equipment (microphones, interfaces, mixers, monitoring systems).
Experience with audio troubleshooting - noise floor issues, interference, sync problems, latency.
Ability to work under pressure in a live broadcast environment with zero tolerance for audio failure.
Good understanding of audio standards for live streaming and broadcast.
Strong attention to detail - able to detect subtle audio quality issues before they impact production.
Desirable:
Experience in a live casino studio or similar high-availability broadcast environment.
Familiarity with IP-based audio systems and dante/AES67 networking.
Knowledge of audio processing tools - noise gates, compressors, EQ, de-essers.
Experience with audio-video sync testing and latency measurement tools.
Relevant audio engineering qualifications or certifications.
Key Competencies:
Deep knowledge of professional audio systems, signal chains, and broadcast standards.
Meticulous in configuration, level-setting, and quality checking.
Responds immediately to audio issues and live production incidents.
Monitors systems actively and identifies potential issues before they become incidents.
Works closely with the Video Specialist, Studio IT Team, and Build Team.
Maintains accurate and up-to-date audio configurations, wiring, and signal chain documentation.
Working Conditions:
On-site role - presence in the Studio is required during all working hours.
Shift-based working pattern to cover studio operating hours including evenings and weekends.
Physical activity involved - installing microphones, running cabling, working in rack spaces.
On-call availability may be required for P1 out-of-hours audio incidents.
